Business Description
Thomas Massie began building robot arms long before he had any ideas about touching computer data. While pursuing his bachelor's degree at MIT, Massie and Dr. Kenneth Salisbury, principal research scientist at MIT's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, sought a way to reach into the computer display to touch 3D data. Together they designed and built the first PHANTOM® device. What began as a thesis project was validated when demand for the PHANTOM began to spread through MIT and the research communities of other leading institutions. Formally incorporated in 1993 and today has over 1600 systems in more than 30 countries. SensAble's customers include adidas-Salomon, Boeing, Fisher-Price, General Electric, Graco, Hasbro, Levolor, Medicom Toy, New Balance, Shell, Unitec, Wedgwood, and leading universities and research facilities worldwide.
